Nervhous Records 1999-2013
Yesterday I announced on facebook that Nervhous Records is dead. To make it official, this is the press statement. There are a few factors;
1. I no longer have interest in releasing bands nor organizing music events. Some people think that I still organize gigs but the true fact is gigs like The Casualties, Anti-Flag that happened recently here were organized by friends especially Apis Red Ink Ent, Amert and Sanchez. I didn't even go to The Casualties gig nor took part in organizing it. The same goes with Anti-Flag, I didn't help anything besides posting the poster to the web. Then I went the show. I rarely go to gigs after marriage (exactly 2 years ago!). I only go to gigs that my band play and gigs held nearby my place. The eagerness of checking out new bands also faded. Maybe jaded. I only listen to the bands and music I've known and liked. Some bands are still hoping to get to be under the label and some still asked when are we going to organize a gig, so it's better to make an official announcement.
2. CDs don't sell well these days. Releasing CDs meaning you have to run from your job to go and print and press the CDs at the plants. It's tiring, furthermore it doesn't sell like it used to be. Certain titles sold very well and sold-out such as Dum Dum Tak's 'Hentikan Penindasan', Always Last's 'Antidotes' and Toxictoy's 'Amazingly Realistic Puke!'. One of the reasons is because I rarely go to gigs, maybe. We still have a lot of stock for other titles.
3. I'm sick. Yes, literally. Both my kidneys are failing since 2006 and it's getting worse every year. I'm constantly seeking for alternative treatments and it costs a lot. So, if running a record label consume time and money plus not enough in return, it's better to stop and have more rest and pray to God for recovery.
4. Family. Need to spend more time with the young family especially on weekends. Plus need to commit with day job since you don't wanna get fired because you're always away printing and pressing CDs. Distro still running though because I can run to the post office for awhile during office hours.
Somehow, we still have two releases coming out soon. Green Well's 'Break Your Shell' CD and Brayok's 'Let's Go!' CD. Both CDs will be pressed limited to 500 pcs only. Green Well is from Japan and playing ska punk. They're playing a show in KL this Monday. Check them out.
I still stock zines, and do CD trades and sell them online and at some events. I still love reading zines and read about punk rock and manage a blog about zines http://bedroompublishers.blogspot.com
Thanks to everyone who helped me out a lot especially Shah (Jellybelly), Amert, Sanchez, Tobek, Shahrizal, Apis, Shaun, Fazri, Tim, Napi, Salman, Fara, Joe Kidd, Aniq, Khabir and there are hundreds more name to thank. It was a good roller coaster ride, making a lots of friends and learning things (and masam-masam muka, puak-puak too!).

Interview: fAdeDfacE
Cerita sikit tentang CD demo yang baru dikeluarkan, banyok laku? Guane
feedback?
Madi: Aku nok kena tulis kut Tranung ke
kut bahasa luor ni..? Hehe…campur-campurlah ya. Ok ini ialah demo kedua fAdeDfacE
berjudul ‘Flying to the Moon’ setelah hampir 20 tahun mendiamkan diri. Ada enam
lagu semuanya, ‘Perjuangan’, ‘Flying to the Moon’, ‘Terima Kasih’, ‘Rasuah’, ‘Anak
Merdeka’ dan ‘Don’t Know’ (cover dari Carburetor Dung). Lagu ‘Don’t Know’ dinyanyikan
oleh Shahlan. Jualan doklah hebat sangat, bolehlah buat beli megi enam peket,
haha.
penting kita nak perjuangkan muzik kitorang.
fAdeDfacE ni kalau dok silap band
lama dari dungun, band Madi Cong, bakpe dibuat balik. Rasanya line-up lain? Bakpe
dok buat band baru je dengan nama baru?
Madi: fAdeDfacE kalau ikut surat beranak
dilahirkan di Dungun antara tahun 1991-1992. Memang band lama, ahli-ahlinya pun
muda remaja sesangat. Hehe, aku buat balik band ni antara sebab-sebabnya;
1. Aku masih terus menulis lagu untuk
fAdeDface walaupun band tak aktif.
2. Aku nak aktif balik dalam scene
sebab dah lama aku tinggalkan scene ni.
3. Dahlah tu..aku takde idea dah nak
tulis apa. Line-up original tinggal aku seorang sajalah. Masa mula reform dulu,
tahun 2010, Lan (ex-Carburetor Dung) join on bass dan Nen (Picagari) join on
drums. Tapi lepas tu Nen left the band. Latest line-up skarang; Aku
(guitar/Vox), Zali (guitar), Lan (bass) & Rossi (drums). Buat band baru?
Malaslah, kalau buat pun mungkin band projek sajalah. Tapi malaslah nak ada
banyok2 band ni, buat pening kepala saja, hehe.
Cerita sikit tentang band
fAdeDfacE yang dulu, tentang line-up...apa yang sempat dilakukan?
Madi: Alamak! Macam dah terjawab je kat
atas, hehe. Aku tambah sikit ya. Line-up asal; Aku (guitar/vox), Aya (bass) dan
Faizal (drums). Dengan line-up ni kitorang sempat release demo pertama berjudul
‘Not Any of Us’, ada 10 lagu semuanya. Masa tu kaset dubbing sajalah. Cover pun
main fotostat saja.
Zine Compilation iaitu lagu ‘Change in My Life’
Kalau buleh cerita sikit pasal scene kat tempat fAdeDfacE dulu, di Dungun, Kuala Terengganu, dll...
Madi: Scene? Masa tu tak banyak band-band
underground ni. Gig pun tak banyak, movement memang slow do’oh lah. Kalau nak
carik scene yang betul-betul hidup masa tu kenalah pergi KL. Aku masa tu pun,
lepas release demo pertama tu aku sambung belajar di Sarawak. So, tak banyak
Baju fAdeDfacE pun aku
sempat buat dua helai saja. DIY cara lama, tapi ada jugalah kitorang main
beberapa kali sekitar Kuala Terengganu. Jualan demo aku serahkan pada member
aku Keytook. Dia yg uruskan jualan demo tu. Berdasarkan apa yang dia cerita
pada aku boleh tahanlah jualan demo tu. Katanya banyak feedback datang dari
geng-geng Johor.
Apa beza line-up dulu dengan line-up sekarang?
Madi: Jenuh gok aku nak jawab ni, hehe. Line-up
dulu dengan sekarang tak banyok beza pun sangat. Cuma dulu kitorang budak-budak
lagi. Aku suka band members yang kepala ngam. Kalau terer sangat pun tapi
Mana pergi
line-up band tu?
Madi: Bukan Cloudy, aku pernah main dengan
band Mr Wilson’s Garden. Band ni band projek gabungan dari ahli-ahli dari
band-band genre yang berbeza; Charles – guitar/vox (Nice Stupid Playground),
aku – guitar (fAdeDfacE ), Andy - bass (Scum) dan Apai - drums (band Rock).
Kitorang sempat rakam dua lagu untuk CD compilation dibawah label Pony Canyon
'Underground Chronicles', tapi masa tu Charles dah tak bersama kami sebab masa tu juga dia tengah sibuk dengan
band dia Nice Stupid Playground. Line-up masa tu; Aku, Andy & Iwan
(replaced Apai on drums). Line-up ni masih ada cuma dah tak aktif. Muzik kitorang
banyak terpengaruh dengan Borneo Indie style. Lain macam sikit sentuhan Indie diorang,
best!
Macam mana mung got into punk rock?
Ladang. Joe Kidd pun banyak bawak pengaruh punk ke Terengganu. Masa tu aku
layan The Ramones, The Macc Lads, Anti-Nowhere League, GBH, Sex Pistols. Carburetor
Dung pun. Tak banyak sangat pun aku layan. Tapi Ramones banyaklah mempengaruhi
lagu-lagu fAdeDfacE masa tu.
Bakpe Shahlan buleh berminat nak
join Fadedface?
Madi: Macam ni…aku sms Joe Kidd menyatakan
hasrat aku nak reform fAdeDfacE. Joe bagitahu Shahlan, lepas tu Shahlan call
aku terus jadi. Selebihnya suruh Shahlan jawab sendiri…
Lepas keluor C. Dung, ada main
mana-mana band atau sebarang projek muzik?
Shahlan: Lama sangat boh cerita ni, banyok
lupa. Setakat aku ingat that era, lepas keluar dari Carburetor Dung aku ada
join dua band; Basic Rights (hardcore) and Unnormal Human Genetic (Punk Rock) dan
lepas tu, teruh pencen boh. Aktiviti lain banyak sangat.
Kenapa cover lagu 'Don't Know' tidak lagu-lagu lain dalam katalog Dung?
Madi: Lan jawab, aku jawab sikit…lagu
ni sebenarnya best, lirik dia pun best. Pada aku kitorang nak angkatkan balik
lagu ni. Tapi kitorang buat dengan version kami sendiri. Lagi pun ada fans yang
rindukan suara Shahlan...hehe.
Shahlan: 'Don't know' adalah lagu
Shahlan: Tak banyak perbezaan aku
underground scene at that time. Lagipung dengan fAdeDfacE aku masih baru lagi,
hehe. Bereh boh.
Rasanya drummer korang pun orang
Fadedface...
Madi: Ni drummer
dulu ni, Nen memang orang lama. Aku kat sekolah lagi dia dah start main di gigs.
Dulu dia drummer Picagari. Tak lama dia join fAdeDfacE, tapi memang banggalah
dapat main dengan Nen. Lan ada benda-benda nok tamboh dok?
Pesanan
pantas pada pembaca zine ni. Terima kasih...
Madi: Keep on supporting the scene and the
route of all music, Punk Rock music…our demo is on sale for just RM6. Dapatkan
di gig-gig yang kami ada atau like our page at www.facebook.com/fAdeDfacEband & contact us.
